Follows a lot of nit and grit about breast cancer, read or not, the upshot is I am doing well and pleased with all the information I am gathering and how empowered (though I hate that word) I feel while going through the path, adventure, journey? They all sound so arcane. If you can think of a better word, I am open to suggestions.Jennifer Lucas, Marin oncologist, called and we talked for 30 minutes today, Monday. She felt that I could slow down on many of the scans, I do have the bone scan (scheduled for Wednesday the 29th in Marin). If that shows anything unusual in the T-2 area, then I should go on with the other suggested tests. She said the blur may be an anomaly and we should wait for the results from the bone scan. She also said the right breast didn't show any heat at all in PET/CT contrast scan, which means the tumor has stopped growing. The left breast did show activity. She looked up my C-spine MRI online while we were talking and the scan stopped at T-1, too short for the T-2 questionable area, but I am planning to skip the MRI unless there is anything noticeable in that area in the bone scan. It made sense to me. It is easy to schedule an MRI here in Marin. If anything positive comes out in the MRI, it affects my post surgical treatment, not my treatment right now.I asked Dr. Lucas about Dr. Ewing (surgeon) who is a professor at UC, and she will operate here (Marin General) or there (UCSF) and does only breasts. She is not a general surgeon as Dr. Stockdale at Stanford intimated.I feel fine and I am tired of every single person wanting to know when the surgery is and telling them the date was to be determined. Dr. Lucas said there is is no difference in outcome if I have the mastectomies tomorrow or two weeks from now.I spoke to Dr. Eileen Gleber this morning, she said that my decision to have both breasts removed is smart. She has treated many women who get tendonitis and other pains from the imbalance of having only one breast. And my breasts are large (or as Dr. Stockdale said, your breasts are large volume), so if I had only one I would be very off balance. If this all seems too specific for you, come back to the web site in two weeks. I am sure a lot will become clear by then.
A friend of mine who is an avid soccer fan and a huge Landon Donovan
supporter sent me this email over the weekend: I’m still just stunned over
the Donovan...
